Harkin Statement on Committee Approval of his FY 2014 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Chairman of the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement today after the Senate Appropriations Committee approved his fiscal year 2014 spending bill. The bill provides $165.6 billion in discretionary budget authority.
“This funding bill is critical to the health and well-being of the nation. It will reduce healthcare costs, bolster medical research, improve early childhood care and education, strengthen our mental health safety net, and help America’s workers get vital job training services. Today’s Committee approval brings the bill one key step closer to enactment, and I look forward to its consideration on the Senate floor as quickly as possible.”
