Harkin Announces More Than $1.6 Million for Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative has been awarded $1,663,387.07 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance Grant Program. Funding will be used cover the costs of emergency repairs made to the overhead power distribution system. The project involving the emergency repairs occurred during January 2012, and this grant covers 75 percent of the total project cost.

“Weather events can have a real impact on the infrastructure and power sources in our state, especially during tough winter weather,” said Senator Harkin. “Without FEMA making this reimbursement, pressure would be greater for higher rates."
