Harkin Congratulates Iowa's 2012 Blue Ribbon Schools

Washington, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today congratulated Iowa’s five 2012 Blue Ribbon award-winning schools.  The Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools whose students achieve at very high levels or who have made significant progress and helped close gaps in achievement, especially among disadvantaged and minority students. Harkin is the Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and of the Senate Appropriations panel that funds education initiatives.

“Congratulations to Iowa’s 2012 Blue Ribbon schools, each of which has done tremendous work preparing their students for a successful future,” said Senator Harkin.  “I commend each of these schools, their principals, and teachers who are recognized with this distinguished award.”

Blue Ribbon schools are recognized as models for other schools throughout the nation.  On November 12th and 13th, the schools will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., along with the more than 300 schools in America who have received this award.  The list of Iowa’s 2012 Blue Ribbon award-winning schools follows.  For more information, visit the Department of Education’s website at http://www2.ed.gov/programs/nclbbrs/awards.html
