Harkin Announces More Than $925,000 for Safety Research at ISU

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that $925,700 will be coming to the Midwest Transportation Consortium (MTC) for its research center based at Iowa State University, with some work also done at the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa.  The program focuses on safety research through road design, human factors and other related safety issues.

“Every year there are thousands of unnecessary injuries and deaths on our roads, so it is important that we do everything we can to improve safety conditions for our motorists and pedestrians,” said Harkin.  “Today’s funding will aid in important road design and safety research, all while providing a boost to Iowa’s universities. This is truly a double win for our state.”

Today’s funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).  Harkin is a member of the Appropriations subcommittee that funds DOT.
