Harkin Statement on U.S. District Court Stem Cell Ruling
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) issued the following statement in response to a preliminary injunction by a U.S. district court that stops federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research. Harkin, a long-time leader in the fight to advance to stem cell research, chairs the Appropriations subcommittee that funds medical research and the Senate health committee.
"This ruling should be appealed and I fully believe that it will be overturned. Embryonic stem cell research offers hope to millions of Americans who are suffering from debilitating and life-threatening diseases, and it must be allowed to proceed."
