Maintaining a Quality of Life in Iowa Communities
"In survey after survey, Iowa consistently ranks as one of the best places in the country to live and raise a family. This did not happen by accident - it has taken committed citizens decades of hard work to create the quality of life Iowans enjoy, and it will require vigilance to maintain. Federal policies can help by supporting economic development, especially in the area of alternative, homegrown energy, by boosting educational opportunities and by promoting Iowa's rich tradition of agriculture and resource conservation." - Senator Tom Harkin
Because of the tremendous importance of agriculture and rural communities to Iowa and our nation, Senator Harkin's position as a senior member of both the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry and the Appropriations Committee and its subcommittee on agriculture have aided his ability to work on behalf of Iowa farms, towns and rural communities. Throughout his time in Congress, Harkin has worked to further the following initiatives for Iowa.
